In 1996 the UNESCO added the Luther Memorials to its World Heritage List, making the Lutherstadt Eisleben ( City of Martin Luther) a much visited destination in Germany. Here in the region of the Counts of Mansfeld It is here that Martin Luther was born in 1483. The house where he was born, was recently renovated and stands opposite the newly built Visitor Center. Just above the town market place with the statue of Martin Luther. The buildings reflect the social and ecclesiatic life in one of the most important times of historical change in Western Europe.
