The Thomas-Müntzer-City Allstedt

First mentioned under the name of Altsedi in 777, Allstedt developed into a historically significant town through a decree by Heinrich I, which made the castle home to the royal court and later the imperial palace. Thomas Müntzer (1489 or 1490 – 1525), a German pastor and rebel leader during the Peasant’s War 1525 preached in the Castle chapel his welln known Prince’s Sermon, in German, which was unusual at that time. Allstedt houses one of the oldest buildings in the „Golden Flood Plain“ of the Helme river. Johann Wofgang von Goethe (1749 – 1832) work for some time at court in Allstedt Castle.
